H.A.N.D.S. Belize was formed in 2004 by a group of concerned Belizeans residing in the Stann Creek District. The Honorable Rodwell Ferguson envisioned a Foundation which would positively impact the lives of all the children of Stann Creek West.
As with many other developing countries facing economic difficulties, Belize is finding it difficult to ensure that all educational and health opportunities are available to each child. Crime and delinquency are the consequences of a lack of educational, social and economic opportunities.
SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT
The mission of H.A.N.D.S. Belize is to improve educational opportunities for the children of the constituency of Stann Creek West.
The Founding Members and the Executive Committee have set forth the following goals for the constituency of Stann Creek West to:
- Improve and increase the educational facilities, supplies and scholarships.
- Ensure that each child has uniforms including shoes and sports apparel.
- Provide sports equipment.
- Enable each child to express himself/herself in arts and crafts.
- Develop access and training on computers.
- Establish regular medical, dental and vision checkups.
- Maintain and improve the Feeding Program so that each child has at least one
nutritious meal per day.
We realize that the task is immense and that each school, as well as each child, has unique needs and requirements. Working closely with the principals and teachers, the Foundation will be able to determine the most immediate concerns. Through cash and materials donated locally or abroad, we will be able to make every effort to address the most urgent needs.
The foundation firmly believes that each child has a fundamental right to
education and good health. We, the community, and the country as a whole must
step in for these rights to become a reality. Join hands with us, your support
